USC Alumni Day of SCervice with the Bolsa Chica Conservancy

By Ross Griswold

Date and time

Saturday, March 10, 2018 · 9am - 12pm PST

Location

East Garden Grove/Wintersburg Channel @ Gothard

Across the street from 16882 Gothard Street Huntington Beach, CA 92647

Description

Each year, thousands of Trojans gather across the globe to make a difference in their communities. USC Alumnus D. Ross Griswold invites all Trojans to join in a day of service to remove trash and debris from the East Garden Grove/Wintersburg Channel. The Channel carries run off and trash to four municipalities, neighboring unincorporated areas, and the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve which threatens the health of this unique urban ecosystem.

Volunteers will help remove trash and debris from the East Garden Grove/Wintersburg Channel and prevent these harmful materials from flowing into the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve, the largest remaining salt water marsh in Southern California.

Are you ready to roll up your sleeves? Do you want to be among thousands of fellow Trojans participating in community service projects around the world?

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

PARKING: Parking is limited at this work site so try your best to carpool with your fellow Trojans. Earliest volunteers should park inside the storm channel access road which can fit approximately 12 cars. Up to 4 cars can then park at the access gates not in use. Finally, there is a small strip of businesses located parallel with the channel where you can park and walk to the channel gates.

RSVP: Register no later than Thursday, March 8th

Please note that there are currently no restroom facilities on site. Due to the unique circumstances of this cleanup site, if there is a 25% chance of rain or higher we will need to cancel the cleanup event for the safety of staff and volunteers. We highly recommend volunteers wear shoes/boots with sufficient traction as it can be slick in areas of the storm channel where we will be working. Please also bring water and dress in your favorite USC layers and colors as it can be shady and cold in certain areas of the storm channel.
